The weekend of 4 May 12, Tracy and I drove down to Moab to meet some friends. We met
never hiked to this arch, and it was a really nice arch and a nice hike. We started early and
had it pretty much to ourselves, but it was getting crowded on our hike back. From there we
drove up to Mill Canyon to look at some dinosaur fossils, and then headed back into Moab for
lunch. Next, we went into Arches and hiked up to Landscape Arch. This trail was crazy
crowded, but it was still a nice hike. After leaving here, Megan and Jason headed back home,
and Tracy and I headed up to the north end of the San Rafael Swell. We had a hard time
finding a good campsite because the wind was crazy, but eventually we found a site. That
night was a night when the full moon was at its closest point to the Earth, and out in the desert
it was really bright. Unfortunately, the strong wind was cold, so we couldn't stay long to enjoy
The next day we drove out to a place I had wanted to check out called Hamburger Rocks. This
place wasn't nearly as cool as the pictures had made it out to be, but it was still interesting.
Next we drove out to the Wedge Overlook, which was really pretty. From there, we headed out
to Castle Dale and on home.
I was surprised by how busy Moab is this time of year. We got a break in the temperature that
weekend, but normally it would be pretty hot, but it was still crowded. We're used to seeing it in
the winter when it's pretty quiet. The north end of the Swell is also very dusty, and we get
pretty tired of the dust pretty quickly. It was remote, but the dustiness gets irritating. But this
was a great weekend with good friends.
